Slip and Fall

For those who work outside of emergency care facilities, statistics about falls can be quite eye opening.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), slip and falls are the single most common reason for visits to the emergency room. Not only is that alarming but so is the price associated with your injury. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports the average cost of a slip and fall injury is $28,000.00. This amount includes medical bills, physical therapy and missed wages.

As stated by NSC Injury Facts 2011, falls are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States, accounting for approximately 8.9 million visits to the emergency department annually.

Falls are the second‑leading cause of unintentional death in homes and communities, according to the NSC, resulting in more than 25,000 fatalities in 2009. They are also the third largest cause of workplace injuries as reported by the BLS.

Not every fall is someone else’s fault, but many can be easily prevented. Snow and ice can be easily treated, spills cleared and cracks filled to keep injury from happening.
